Florida Trail Team Challenge
Two-person team endurance competition
The Florida Trail Team Challenge (FTTC) is Florida’s premier off-road endurance event. It’s not a casual trail ride or a show-and-shine — it’s a serious, multi-day competition where two-person teams are pushed across dozens of challenges that test driving ability, navigation, vehicle recovery, first aid response, problem-solving, and overall preparedness.
Held across the trails and wilderness of Citrus WMA and surrounding areas, FTTC rewards teams that show up ready, communicate well, and make smart decisions when things get difficult.
The Format
Teams of two compete together for the entire event. There are approximately 45 distinct challenges spread across the weekend. Points are earned by successfully completing each one. The team with the highest overall score wins.
Challenge categories include:
- Navigation — Precise route-finding and time management through the woods and trail system
- First Aid & Medical Scenarios — Realistic emergency situations that require quick thinking and proper protocols
- Vehicle Recovery — Safe, efficient winching, strap work, high-lift use, and creative recovery solutions
- Trail Driving & Obstacle Navigation — Technical sections that demand strong driver/spotter teamwork
- Problem-Solving & Survival Skills — Unconventional tasks that test creativity, resourcefulness, and composure
- Endurance & Teamwork Tasks — Physical and mental challenges that expose weaknesses in preparation or communication
The format is deliberately demanding. There’s no room for ego or shortcuts — success comes from solid fundamentals, trust between teammates, and the ability to stay calm when plans change.
A Serious, Skill-Focused Atmosphere
What sets FTTC apart is its reputation as a true test rather than a social ride. Participants treat it like a competition because it is one. Vehicles are well-equipped, teams are prepared, and the emphasis is on safe, responsible off-roading while genuinely stressing both people and rigs.
The event promotes exactly the kind of skills that matter when you’re far from help: knowing how to recover your own vehicle (or someone else’s), navigating when GPS fails, handling medical situations, and making good decisions under fatigue.
It’s controlled, but it’s hard. That’s the point.

What We Took Away
Events like FTTC are a great reminder that the best off-road upgrades aren’t always the shiniest ones. Good recovery gear, solid navigation skills, a well-thought-out first aid kit, and — most importantly — a teammate you trust, often matter more than the biggest tires or the highest lift.
It’s the kind of weekend that makes you look at your rig (and your own preparation) a little more honestly.
